Hallie Iglehart Austen has been an activist since 1968. She grew up on a farm, living close to the earth most of her life. After graduating from Brown University, she drove overland from England through Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and Nepal--and back again--over the course of one year. This journey, described in her first book Womanspirit: A Guide to Women’s Wisdom, led to her synthesis of spirituality and feminism, which she began teaching in 1974. Since then, she has led workshops, rituals and conferences at universities, the United Nations, and theological schools among other places. Her later book The Heart of the Goddess: Art, Myth and Meditations of the World’s Sacred Feminine is a stunningly beautiful worldwide selection of the art, values and living lessons of Goddess culture--informative, inspirational, and, for many, a guide to freedom. Hallie is cofounder of Seaflow: Protect Our Living Oceans, educating the public about the dangers of active sonars and other ocean noise to whales, dolphins, and all sea life. She also initiated All One Ocean to educate people about the hazards of ocean plastics, establishing over fifty beach cleanup stations around stations in the U.S. and Mexico. Hallie lives in the San Francisco Bay Area, organizes for voter rights and teaches Wisdom Healing Zhineng Qigong online and in person. She uses her matrilineal name as her surname.
